Tips for a Good House Floor Plan

Feng shui your floor plan

If you are looking for a new home, rental or purchase, apartment or house, or even for your existing home, here are some feng shui tips for a good home floor plan.

the entrance

The entrance is your face to the world in feng shui philosophy. Unless you’re looking for a retreat as a retiree, you want to find a home that has a clear, easy-to-find entrance. Just think of the first time you approached your house. Was it easy to find the front door? Does the doorbell work? Is it clean and well lit? These are key feng shui factors for your home.

It is best if there is an easy-to-follow path from the street to the front door. That the front door and the entrance hall are open and spacious. This way you can attract the best opportunities and they have a place to congregate and collect.

Here are some guidelines for the entry foyer. Avoid having a wall or stairs within six feet of the front door. There should be enough light in this space (so even changing a brighter bulb can help). Also avoid homes with another door or large window directly across from the front door. The qi (vital energy) comes straight out of the house with this type of configuration.

Room placement for good feng shui

Ideally, you want to have the public areas of the house near the front with the private rooms near the back.

The best positions for the kitchen, living room and home offices are near the front door. Since this is where the family spends time together and greets guests and visitors, it makes sense that it’s closer to the front door. It’s more public.

Private spaces such as bedrooms are best nested towards the back half of the house. Traditionally, older family members (such as grandparents) resided further back. The further back you are, the more security, power and influence you have.

Command post

The bed, the desk and the stove are the three most influential places in the house according to feng shui. The bed represents you, the office is your career, and the stove is your wealth and how you feed yourself.

You are in a commanding position when you can see into the doorway, but not directly in line with the doorway. Usually you end up being diagonal, or “kitty corner” from the door. A good feng shui house plan takes into account the dominant position of beds, desks and the stove in the house.

What’s in the center of the house

What happens in the center of the house affects the well-being of all the inhabitants. The center of the house corresponds to the health zone or “tai qi” of the Bagua map and it touches all other areas of life. It is therefore better to avoid having a staircase and / or a bathroom in the center.

Stair Considerations

There are a few stair considerations when reviewing floor plans.

First of all, spiral staircases are a big feng shui no-no. They are disorienting and create a fast boring energy that should be avoided if possible.

In general, many stairs, as in a two-level house, create difficult feng shui. It means that there will be many ups and downs in your life.

Stairs directly in front of the front door (within six feet) or in the center of the house are also a feng shui challenge.

The general shape of the house

For the final tip, generally simple, balanced floor plans in a well-proportioned square or rectangular shape offer the best feng shui. It might sound a bit boring, but with the simple square shape, there are no missing areas on the Bagua map, and things are mostly in harmony and balance
